  •  FEBRUARY:  The BBC announced EMI as the winner of the Baird-EMI competition

  •  Both the coronation of King George VI and the the Wimbledon tennis tournament are televised in England.  9,000 sets sold.

  •  France begins construction of the world's most powerful TV transmitter in the Eiffel Tower.  At this time 18 experimental stations are in the USA.
